Hebrews 12:1
Before I left for tour, I told myself that I was going to go running every day while I was gone. Seeing as I am an obnoxiously early riser, I thought what better way to use the morning than by running and taking some time by myself to pray, connect with God, and explore the different areas I’ll be staying. This morning was the first time that I got up and had the chance to go running. Currently I am in Anthem, AZ and as you can imagine, Arizona in the summer is not the coldest of places. Luckily I went early enough that it wasn’t blistering yet. While I was on my run, I couldn’t help but think of Hebrews 12:1. I don’t necessarily enjoy running, in fact, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t forcing myself to go running. More often than not I’d much prefer not to run at all. I suppose while I was running this morning it was somewhat out of character. Maybe that’s why this particular verse was on my mind. I’m not a naturally inclined runner. Like I said, I thought running would be a great way of exploring the neighborhood, but I think more importantly, it’s a time form me to get out on my own and connect with God one-on-one. Hebrews 12:1 being on my mind was just a way that I felt like God was speaking to me. What struck me in particular this morning is the part where it says “let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” more often than not when I have read this verse I focus on the perseverance part…today however, my attention was on the part where it says the race is marked out for us. God has an intentional plan for every step of the journey. There is a map already in place for my journey. Running alone in an unfamiliar area was an incredible reminder that I am not, nor will ever be, completely alone and that is incredibly comforting. The Lord goes before me and he has already marked the race for me.
Who knew a morning run would stir so much thought.
Be encouraged that we serve a God that goes before us EACH AND EVERY DAY. We follow in His footsteps and He will never lead us in the wrong direction.
